Wilsons popularity surpassed the US during 2014, when she landed a role in Showtimes The Affair. In the show, she performed the role of Alison Lockhart who is a young troubled woman from a dark background. Lockhart is a lover of an unmarried Noah Solloway. Wilson received an award for her performance, the Golden Globe award for Best Actress for a Television Series Drama, alongside Mauratierney as well as Joshua Jackson. Wilson stated to British Vogue, "I loved getting to portray the character that has two sides to the story." Noah perceives Alison to be this attractive, sexy and confident version. But she sees herself completely differently, which on the outside is dull and in the shadows and unwilling to make a statement. Wilson also stated that she believed America to be so moralistic. Wilson has left The Simpsons in 2018, wasn't forthcoming about the reasons. During an interview on CBS This Morning Interview in August of 2018, Wilson stated, "I did want to quit, but I'm unable to speak about why." Wilson is currently focusing her efforts on the film industry. Wilson starred in the horror film I Am the Pretty Thing Living in the Home in 2016, and she played the mysterious PT Stella as the Sci-Fi romance How to Talk to Girls a Parties. The list of films she has appeared in will soon include another film in the horror style. The British version of The Little Stranger is an supernatural thriller, an adaptation of a Sarah Waters novel. Wilson will be executive producing the movie.
